Dr. Sheronica James is a Principal Research Engineer in the Biomedical Engineering Department in the Lerner Research Institute at Cleveland Clinic. Her current research focuses on developing a non-invasive, low cost method to accurately characterize the composition of carotid plaque, with a long-term goal of predicting stroke risk in patients with atherosclerotic blockages. She works primarily on developing mathematical algorithms based upon quantitative analysis of information that is obtained, but not considered, during the creation of standard ultrasound images. In line with her research, Dr. James’ overall career goal is to produce patient-centered medical diagnostics and therapies that allow healthcare practitioners to offer cheaper, faster and more efficient care.
